Today i went to the barber to have my haircut.

While waiting for my turn an old man carrying a black handheld bag came in. He settled down in a corner, quite near to me. After sitting down for a while, the old man left the barber, leaving the black bag on the floor.

The black bag immediately caught my attention. You know, since 9/11, and subsequently the bombings in trains and buses and pubs and god-knows-what-other-places, people around the world have been very sensitive over black-coloured bags.

No i'm not over sensitive, but i just couldnt help but stare at the bag, with images of ka-boom replaying in my mind, at the same time wondering if something explosive is going to happen soon.

Cannot blame me mah, but then i was sitting only about half-a-metre away from the bag. If it really explodes, I am sure to be the first to die.

Imagine, my body being ripped off into bits and pieces, scattered all over the place, some of them still burning, others charred to beyond recognition.

A seventeen-soon-to-be-eighteen-year-old-boy died, so many things still undone. Haven't got his 4 As, havent got his NOI medal (maybe gold leh! maybe top 4 then can rep singapore leh! maybe can get scholarship maybe can go overseas study maybe can work in some research institution maybe can invent some mind blowing thing maybe can become world famous leh!!!), haven't earn my first million (maybe i start a company then become famous and earn alot of money leh!), haven't dated a girl, haven't buy a car, haven't buy a new computer etc etc etc etc etc.

To say the truth, I did thought of running out of the barber shop. Haha.

Luckily, I was able to balance reality and imagination. Eventually I got my hair cut.

And for the security people who may have been alarmed by my imagination, halfway through the haircut the old man came back.

(As i'm typing this, suddenly i thought: what if the bomb goes off while my hair is being cut? I will die with a horrible hair-style!)

Before I end this entry I shall declare the start of the hibernation of my blog, which shall last for a week. Good luck to all in anything and everything they will be facing this coming week.

VJ's team is complete! All 5 of us are in to the final stage!

And interestingly there's a familar name in the list, other than the 2 I know.

The battle is becoming more exciting...~

I wonder why people back then have so much passion and patriotism for their country. They can actually spend their entire lifetime throwing their mind and soul into building up the country.

[And they were not even born there!]

I admire the determination and energy they have to keep the country going despite tough times. You know, building up a country from nothing is definitely not an easy task. Managing finances, building up defences, building up housing and parks and shopping centres and public transport and airport and seaport and schools and librarys and cinemas etc etc etc etc, creating jobs for the unemployed, setting up unions and boards and agencies, establishing friendly ties with countries all over the world etc etc etc.

That is hell of a work to do!

Comparing their generation with our new generation kids, we seem to be doing real bad in terms of sense of belonging for our country huh? Every other person you rubbed shoulders with everyday has at least said once that he wants to get out of his country and migrate to some other better(or so they claimed) country.

I'm not saying that I'm patriotic. (Sadly) I'm one of the many (i'm quite sure) young kids out there who don't really know who the guy who died today is and what contributions he has done for Singapore until I watched the news.

But then again, at least I don't work hard to try to get good SAT scores and S papers grades for the sole reason of leaving Singapore to live in some "First-World" country for good.

I guess the reason is that people back then do not have to get stressed up in school or workplace, and standards of livings are low such that they can meet their daily needs easily and so, have time for their dreams.

Maybe in today's world, stress levels and cost of living are replacing sense of belonging as the factors that one considers which country he wants to live in.

On the other hand, should I say that technological advances and economical well-growth is driving us greedy and asking for better and better and even better things? People back then are satisfied with a little 2-room flat and a bicycle. People nowadays? 5-room flats are too small, the brand Toyota is not 'high-class' enough, and they want plasma TVs in their bathrooms, dozen-core-CPU-powered computers (hmm i wished for one of that too) etc.

Maybe because the past generation have been through tough times, so the tortures they endured made them more determined to run the country themselves, and run well, so that the country does not have to go through tough times again.

So our generation have never been through tough times, which make us not as bonded to the country as compared to the older generation. So everyone is thinking of leaving.

Perhaps we should start hoping that xI and xJC (where x=R) will churn out passionate leaders who are willing to lay down their lives for Singapore.

Meanwhile, i salute Mr S. Rajaratnam for his determination in running the country.

And maybe, we should start paying a little more attention to the country that gave us food and warmth and family and education.

A little update here...since i'm *slightly* free now.

I was registered for the olympiad! Its just that, according to one source, my email was truncated, and according to another source, my email was wrongly typed in.

Regardless of the mistake, I'm happy to be back in the race. Muahaha.

Actually I think the best i can go is only a bronze. Maybe *maybe* I can get a sliver. Gold....if heaven is on my side...top 4...if the Sun rises from the west.

I just do my best la.

One competition aside I have another competition coming up in not so distant time. The teacher is breathing down my neck wanting me to find out if there are enough people to justify the purchase of a third micromouse.

The year2s badly want a new one to replace an old spoilt one, but our dear money-saving teacher thinks that if there are not enough people to form a third team, then don't buy.

He has cause for worry though. The number of new year1s this year is terribly low. Not enough people to "carry down the family line". Besides, each mouse does not cost just $2.

And I'm supposed to call the year1s to find out who is interested in taking up micromouse. But given my shy nature towards strangers I don't know how to do it.

"This is your job. Otherwise why do I put u as the head?"

CCAs aside, SPAs and common test are coming soon. The next 3 days are SPAs days, but mine is on Thursday and Friday, so tomorrow is free for me. I will still be going school, because if i stay at home I will be spending more time on my bed and with the computer rather than my books.

Next week is common test, and with the release of A level results predicted to happen that week (and therefore, a declared holiday if my seniors did well), exams on Friday may be pushed to Monday, which is computing.

Which makes me wonder where I'm going to find time to practise that last bit for olympiad and watch my friend's drama, which will happen on the same day.

Life. Or the lack of it.

It gets increasingly discouraging when competition's coming in two weeks' time and I am still getting many Wrong Answer and Time Limit Exceeded.

It doesn't help when everyone else have received an email from the organisers asking to verify their information and I haven't received mine.

The fact that common test is coming is adding on to the pressure. Haix.

Hello everyone!

It has been a little stressful this week. Ever since the "battle" has begun almost everyday has been busy and tiring..running between college and Macdonalds' and home.

Firstly was Valentine's Day (or rather, Friendship Day) on Tuesday. "Friendship" Day is a rather hyped-up event in vjc...with the house comm blasting love songs in the canteen throughout the day and balloons and presents and cards appearing everywhere in the school. It was one of the rare times of the year where the canteen is so noisy because everyone was hanging around giving out presents.

My haul:
4 chocolates
1 sweet
1 cookie
1 rubber
1 candle
2 letters
2 snacks
1 sunflower
(did i miss out anything?)

Muahaha. Thanks to all for the presents...though i never prepare anything for others lol.

Anyway walking through a park with a sunflower sticking out from your bag is not an easy task to do.

The next day was Total Defence Day...nothing special happened la...just a talk in the morning on Total Defence.
Highlight of the day was the retrieval of the college yearbook. Finally after so many months and so much money the yearbook is in my hands.

Lately there's this news about police asking kids under 17 to stay at home after 11pm. They will record down names of those under 17 spotted loitering around and send them home...maybe even writing letter to their parents.

Wah gg liaox...now those kids cannot go out late at night liaox. Luckily i'm already 17 hahaha.

Sians i tired liaox. Blog another day.

Yo!

Just reached home from JTS!

(Technically speaking should be JSS...junior subsidized senior...cos we helped pay abit.)

Ate at this place called Sakura at Parkway...a place i never heard and stepped into until a few hours ago. Haha.

Went for the buffet..and like last time at Seoul Garden, i ate until damn full so as to maximise the value. Except this time got people paying for my meal. Haha.

The dinner was nice...because many people were there, there was nice food, the environment was nice, the atmosphere was nice.

Not forgetting the lemon-juice-laced-cream puff then i fell victim to.

There aren't many chances where one can just put down everything and enjoy a nice meal in a relaxed mood, esp ever since we entered JC. So i enjoyed it very much.

Yay i have recouped all my losses from my JTS last year..muahaha.

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day...nice lovely day for the many couples out there who will be giving and receiving presents. Good day for a liitle date after school.

That is, if there's someone who will give him or her presents and someone whom he or she can give presents to.

And someone to hold hands with after school.

Well, at least three men in this world will be going through a lonely Valentine's Day. Haha. Not too bad also la, they have each other and their computers for company.

I have invited them to put messages up on my blog. So here it goes:

Darn i was late for school today.

I was caught in heavy traffic at the Bedok North PIE bridge there..by the time i reached the school the student councillors have locked the latecomers out.

After that i had to write my name down at the general office.

"Today is the Hongbao Toto ah...thats y the queue so long ah~"

Reason for being late: Traffic jam

"Good morng mr sum r u in sch today?"

"Yes i'm late. In GO now."

Immediately after that was my mock napha...muahaha i passed all 3 stations! But then i nearly failed my 2.4k and my CT knew about it...so i may ba down for "healthy lifestyle". Haix.

Today was the release of the O' Levels results....the little kids were worried over the results. The seniors were pretty excited as well. During my one hour in the canteen i have heard countless times of "AHH!!!!!! (i-dunno-who) got 6!" "AHH!!!! (i-dunno-who) got 8!"

There was this girl who ran all the way down the canteen, came in the row of bench i was sitting in (If i didnt react fast enough and give way to her my legs would have been gone) and to a friend to proudly announce her junior got many A1s.

There were loads more who were yakking on their handphones asking their little brothers/sisters/juniors/cousins how they have fared.

I wonder if our seniors did anything similar when we took our results last year.><

Well, getting results back is indeed nerve wrecking. The process of waiting shouldnt be experienced too many times. Haha.

Congrats to those who have achieved good results...for those who did not do well, it does not mean the end of the world, so stay optimistic =)

Internet Explorer users who suddenly find my sidebar missing, its at the bottom of my blog. I'm lazy to fix it.

Today went for my one-hour yoga course....

This yoga course was part of Feeling Fab 2006..so this morning the year2s went for courses that they have chosen earlier...besides yoga there's self-massage (they con people one..need two pple to massage), self defense, kick-boxing (aka muay thai), and non physical activities like personal grooming, business and enterprise, communication strategies (slack lor...just sit in LT listen) etc etc

Wah lau the yoga course was tiring la...stretching and twisting here and there, no difference from mass PE...there were weird postures that were impossible for me to do, what one hand go under a leg the other hand from behind the back then both hands have to touch each other.

LAst 5 minutes they have a "relax" posture...basically just lie down on the floor and keep eyes closed while they played some music. THe guy was there "Relax....relax your muscles....relax your back...relax your arms....relax..........................................................................................." They even switched off the lights so we could rest properly.

It was really relaxing..but because i watched too much tv, the whole time i was a little worried that we get too relaxed, they will inject something into us then make us their slaves. So i didnt really rest well, occassionally opening my eyes to make sure no one was near me. Haha.

Anyway the course isnt too bad...I think maybe they should make this a weeky event or something.

Tired.

Tuesday, February 07, 2006

I learnt something new yesterday.

Next time u all punch me hor, i won't get angry one. In fact i will treat you to a meal to thank you for only punching me once instead of punching me twice and kicking me.

Crap aside, i'm attending a yoga course tomorrow! Haha. Wish me good luck..i hope i will still be in one piece after the thingy tml.

Haha Valentine's Day is coming...interestingly our horticultural society is organising a flower delivery service not just within vj, but also to tj, for a mere delivery charge of 20cents.

Fearless!

Movie isn't too bad, though it fell slightly short of my expectations. I was expecting alot of fight scenes, but there were alot of talking.

Maybe the fighting weren't too "action" enough. Haha.

Anyway I thought it is too harsh to be tio a NC-16. Only a couple of fight scenes got bones breaking leh...parents can cover their children's eyes when watching that de ma. Otherwise there are alot of things little children can learn. Haha.

But overall its a good movie la. Worth watching.

Sianx holidays over liaox. No more holidays until march leh. Haiz.

Good morning!

Before anything else, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL!

Its 初七人日 today..that makes it everyone's birthday!

My trainer took MC today..so I have the rare chance to stay at home instead of slogging my mind out in school.

Its nice weather today, not hot not cold. Sadly Year 2s don't have the fortune to enjoy it.

( In case anyone is still immersed in the CNY atmosphere, January has already passed. Its Feburary now. )

( Err yes, that brings us one month closer to A levels and one month lesser to preparing for A levels. )

( But then! We must be optimistic! That brings us one month closer to the end of A levels! )

In case you are thinking why I'm blogging rubbish again, this time I'm really blogging rubbish. Haha.
Because I want to delay doing my homework for as long as possible.

So the fact is that I'm wasting your time as your read this. Haha.

Sorry about that...have a nice day ahead.

( Actually you didnt waste all the time...because by reading this you have gotten a morning greeting, a birthday greeting and a "have a nice day" wish from me to you. )

( And I have just jolted you awake from your honeymoon. [Its Feburary!!!!!] )

( To a certain extent, I have just made you [slightly] more optimistic about life. Haha.)

Just one last statement..if this blog is giving you an impression that I am crazy, please allow me to loudly declare again: I AM NOT CRAZY!

-.-''

I'm damn tired today, so i shall just make a short post.

Today is the launch of Igloo, which is basically our students' lounge. They called it Igloo because it is a place for us to "chill out". Haha.

A huge launch party was organised...with some ice-breaking games (literally ice breaking), free food and drinks.

Basically the Igloo is a scaled down version of AHS's students' lounge (which they call Eagles' Nest haha). In Igloo there's a pool table, table soccer, a dartboard, a plasma tv hooked to a dvd player (i think), a PS2 hooked to a small lcd screen (there are two games currently), and a magazine rack with seats.

The ps2 and lcd screen are in a small little room. The principal told us that there's a sound proof room in the lounge where we can use to sing, and since it is the only room i saw, i guess that is the one ba. But there are no singing equipment leh. Correct me if i'm wrong.

I agree with one comment in cosiety that RPG games aren't very suitable to be put into students' lounge, since not many people can play at once.

In conclusion the Igloo is similar to the Eagles' Nest...but its abit too small to....attract many people?

I'm starting to not know what I'm typing. Haha. I shall stop here.

When the government announced the policy to ban smoking in public places I was rejoicing, because i thought i can finally breathe fresh air when i go out.

But so many months after the ban has been implemented, there isn't really much impact on the people huh? People still smoke freely on the streets, at the bus stops (despite the huge anti-smoking signs on the pillars), at the parks etc etc.

I hate most when i'm trying to enjoy a slow leisure walk along somewhere and then this guy must appear in front of me smoking (walking at the same pace and route as me somemore!). Then the puffs will fly backwards then i smell them -.-''

So i have to walk fast to get past the guy before i can enjoy my slow walk. But the fast walk past the guy and the puff that got into my nose already got me irritated.

They should ban cigarettes!

EDIT
I forgot to mention that the guest-of-honour today was the owner of Sakae Sushi (am i right?). He was a fellow Victorian.

Maybe 10 years later I become some famous guy then i also be the guest-of-honour of cross country, at the same time opening the new Sum Qing Wei Lecture Theatre. Haha.

Then i will create many false starts then make the good runners tired, so the normal people can win.

"Shock at VJC Cross Country - Top runners lose to gu niangs!"

Depending on what company i open i can donate some prizes also huh? If i open a computer company then i donate computers. If i open taxi company i offer discount coupons for taxi rides. Aren't these more practical? Lol.

END OF EDIT

So today was our annual cross country.

Nothing special about cross country this year, basically about the same every year:

-- The girls and teachers start running first, 3.2km
-- The guys run next, 4.8km

My CT came in first again, not just among the staff, but also among the girls. He has been doing so for the past 9 years -.-''

There were initially some talks about a threat from a girl. My CT expressed concern about this cross country girl who may be able to beat him, but alas, the threat didn't succeed. She came in after him...

While the girls started at the linkbridge, the guys started from the starting line of the stadium. As the race started, one can see crazy sportsmen running for their dear lives at the opposite side (its the truth man..they ran the 4.8km like they were running 100m)

Some ideas I came up with:
1) The first to reach the finishing line will be recarnated into the President of some country, second will be recarnated into Prime Minister etc etc
2) VJC kidnapped their girlfriends! They have to complete their race in a specific amount of time in order to save their girlfriends!

I'm talking cock.

Anyway i got a real nice position: 400. Muahaha.

At the last "fastest 100m stretch we ever ran in our lives" (i didnt run fast becos of the cheering girls -.-'', but the fact it is the finishing line) i was challenged by this guy. I tried to outrun him but he didnt want to lose out, so the two of us raced all the way down the stretch (at that point of time it appears i am the one who wants to get recarnated into the President or save my girlfriend haha)

In the end i outran him (yay!), but was overtaken by two other guys from my other side ><)

Cross country is one of the rare event where the prize presentation ceremony took a longer time than the actual competition. Got IP guys top 5, IP girls top 5, Staff top 10, guys top 20, girls top 20, the top 3 ccas, the top CTs, and the overall champion house.

Besides those there's also a whole range of lucky draw prizes..which includes (according to the emcee) *attractive* New Balance ........ socks!

-.-''

I didn't win anything (which is good also. I dunwan to stand up in the midst of the entire school and walk up the stage to receive $30 jean yip vouchers)

Finally the prize presentation was over after one freaking hour. I was totally drained of energy to do any mass dances.

Afternoon went to watch I Not Stupid Too with some friends.
I thought it was an excellent movie, because it accurately portrayed problems that families face today, though not so extreme but to a certain extent. [partially because i'm a teen myself so can relate to it]

Actually I don't expect my own parents to speak my lingo (serious, i cant imagine them yelling "So cool! So lame..") or to read my blog (No they mustn't see this!). But i will appreciate if they nag less often and praise me more =D (like passing my chem r)

Sometimes i wonder what will happen to me if my parents spent all their time working and neglect me. Will I still be studying in ahs and vjc or will I be helping my gang create webpage?

I realise that lately i'm writing alot of rubbish. Lol.
